On May 17, 2016, visitors to John Tyler Community College’s Chester Campus may notice increased security activity from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. due to a planned live-action, functional drill. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic may be restricted on portions of the campus during that time as College personnel prepare for, carry out, and wrap up the drill. From approximately 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., the active portion of the drill will take place, and during that time, Bird Hall and Goyne Hall, including Financial Aid and the Business Office/Cashier, will be closed to the public. All other offices involved in the registration process will be open, and students are welcome to come to campus to sign up for summer and fall classes.
Each year, the College holds a drill at one of its locations to test its emergency, communications, and disaster recovery plans. The May 17 drill, being led by Tyler’s Security Services and Emergency Preparedness Team, will involve an active shooter scenario that disrupts the College’s business and causes some injuries. No weapons will be fired or used during the drill.
Questions or concerns related to the drill may be directed to the Exercise Controller, Tanya Brown at tbrown01@jtcc.edu.
