After a week filled with rain and threatening skies, the clouds parted over John Tyler Community College’s Midlothian Campus on May 13 in time for the College to welcome thousands of guests for Tyler’s forty-eighth annual Commencement Ceremony. The ceremony, held in the new quad at Midlothian, celebrated the achievements of more than 1,200 students who graduate during the Summer 2015, Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters. More than 400 of these graduates were in attendance, cheered on by their family and friends, as well as members of the College and Foundation boards; president and faculty emeriti; College faculty and staff; and recent Tyler retirees.
Commencement speaker Maurice Jones, secretary of commerce and labor for the Commonwealth, congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to always have heart. “It will be your hear that is the most important muscle – the one that will get you where you want to go,” he said. The students also heard from fellow graduates Hubert “Dolph” Davis, III and Hanna “Cora” Snow who talked about their college journeys.
Initial photos taken during the ceremony may be found on Tyler’s Facebook page. If you have Tyler Commencement photos to share, we’d love to see them. Tag them with #johntylercc and #tylergrads as you share them on social media.
