Welcome to our new students! Congratulations on becoming a Tyler Trailblazer! We are excited to have you at John Tyler Community College, and we want to do all we can to help you succeed.
We understand that beginnings can be overwhelming – whether you’ve ever been to college or not. There’s much to learn – and not just in your classes. Where is my classroom? Who is my advisor? Where is the library? Is there a quiet place I can study? Are there computers I can use? How do I find out about student clubs and activities? If I need help with a class, where do I go? How do I find out what’s happening at Tyler? These are just a few of the questions many of our new students ask.
We want to answer as many of those questions as possible before your first day of class, so we are holding two New Student Orientation Programs. All new students are invited to attend, and you are welcome to bring family and friends with you. You may attend either session, regardless of where you take your Tyler classes.

You are encouraged to sign up for one of the programs by completing the online form found at www.jtcc.edu/orientation. If you are unsure if you’ll be able to attend, you are welcome to sign up at the door.
As a new student, you are also encouraged to sign up for SDV 100 College Success Skills in your first semester. In this one-credit class, you’ll learn more about the services offered to you by John Tyler, as well as learn skills you can use to help you succeed in college, choose a career, and more. To find out when SDV 100 classes are being offered, visit www.jtcc.edu/schedule, and select “Student Development” in the “Subject” field. You can also narrow your choices by selecting a campus, online option or day of the week preference.
