CHESTER and MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – From whimsical to realistic and thought-provoking to imaginative, the artwork featured in the 2014 John Tyler Community College Juried Student Art Show highlights the talents and creativity of the College’s art students. The show features oil paintings, photography, 3D sculptures, drawings, ceramics, graphic art, mixed media and more, and it displays the skills learned through a variety of Tyler art classes. “I believe this show is a testament to not only the wonderful talent of our students but the comprehensive, high-caliber instruction they’re receiving in our Visual Arts Program,” says Colin Ferguson, professor of art at John Tyler.
More than 70 pieces of art make up this year’s exhibit, which was juried by Kris Iden, artist and interim adult education director of the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. As Iden announced the award winners at the March 28, 2014 opening reception, she described her job as juror to be a difficult one because of the caliber of the entries.
