Fool for Art Festival Offers Creative Fun for the Whole Family

CHESTER and MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Explore the wonders of science by panning for gold, digging for fossils, and building a beach in a bottle. Mold clay, and create a traditional African mask. Express yourself by crafting a nature journal or fashioning a hat. Learn important self-defense methods. Cultivate your job-hunting skills by getting tips on resume writing, interviewing and salary negotiations. Put your strategies to the test as you play chess for fun. Be wowed by robots. Improve your internet search techniques and your knowledge of Google products. Celebrate your love for reading by making a customized bookmark. Design your own t-shirt using chemistry. Find out how you can get started at John Tyler Community College, and register for summer classes. These are just a few examples of the many activities you can participate in during John Tyler Community College’s ninth annual Fool for Art Festival. The festival will take place Saturday, April 26, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the College’s Midlothian Campus (800 Charter Colony Parkway). Admission is free.

The day will be packed with family fun, including art, music, hands-on activities, free educational sessions, food and much more. Highlights include:

  • Arts and crafts: Stroll through more than 80 art and craft vendor booths, and shop from a selection of paintings, ceramics, woodwork, glass art, jewelry, photographs, folk art and more.
  • Art of Learning Tent: Experiment, design, imagine, create and learn. Get ready for lots of fun hands-on activities for all ages. 
  • Getting started at Tyler: Personnel from the College’s Admissions and Records Office, Financial Aid Office, and Counseling Centers will be on hand to answer your questions about applying to John Tyler, applying for financial aid assistance, choosing a program of study and classes, and registering for the summer and fall semesters.
  • Free educational sessions, demonstrations and activities: Head inside Eliades Hall and Hamel Hall for a variety of activities and sessions. No matter what your interests, you are sure to find activities and sessions that will inspire your creativity and teach you something new. 
  • Music, dancing and comedy: Get ready to move, laugh and just have a great time. The courtyard will be filled with music, dancing and theatrical entertainment. 
  • Food: Tasty offerings from a variety of vendors will be available throughout the day.
