“I was looking for something to ignite a spark back into my life. John Tyler did exactly that! I was able to fall in love with learning and education all over again, but in a whole new way.” – Lauren Sanford

After graduating from Chesterfield’s Manchester High School at the age of 16, Lauren Sanford felt she was ready to move away from home and jump into college life. Her parents, however, encouraged a different route: go to John Tyler Community College first. Both had attended and graduated from Tyler, and they liked what the college offered.

Lauren admits she initially wasn’t excited about this option, but she chose to follow her parents’ advice. “I knew it was the smarter route to go, as you do so much maturing in the first two years of college,” says Lauren. “After I began classes at JTCC, I loved it!” Lauren enrolled in the General Studies program, immersed herself in campus life, and found a renewed interest in learning. “I was looking for something to ignite a spark back into my life,” she says. “John Tyler did exactly that! I was able to fall in love with learning and education all over again, but in a whole new way.”

As her education continued, Lauren began to focus on her career options. She became interested in learning more about her father’s insurance and financial services business, so she took on a job as a marketing communications manager.

Next up for Lauren – Virginia Commonwealth University. She plans to earn a bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurial studies and eventually, a master’s degree. Her ultimate goal is to run her family’s business.
