Do you have a son or daughter or know a young person with an interest in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and health care (STEM-H)? If so, now’s your chance to sign them up for or tell them and their families about the STEM-H camps being held at John Tyler Community College this summer.

For rising 10th through 12th graders, the college has created a series of one- and two-week STEM-H camps. Exploratory Trails in information technology (IT), life sciences and engineering are one week in length and will give students an inside look at these subject areas through hands-on activities and experiments. Those who want a more in-depth look at STEM-H are invited to participate in one of Tyler’s Experience Trails. These two-week camps focus on IT, health care and basic precision machining. All Experience Trails are held in the college’s high-tech labs, and participants can earn an industry certification.

To sign up for one of these camps, go to www.jtcc.edu/summerstem, and click on the trail of interest.

For younger STEM-H enthusiasts, Tyler is once again partnering with the MathScience Innovation Center (MSiC), which is bringing more than 20 adventure-packed classes to Tyler in July and August as part of MSiC’s Camp Innovation. These camps are open to rising 4th through 9th graders and are offered in half-day and full-day formats at Tyler’s Chester and Midlothian campuses. For a complete list of MSiC Camp Innovation class offerings, organized by age ranges, pricing, and class registration information, go to www.mymsic.org.

John Tyler Community College is also proud to be partnering with the Southside Health Education Foundation for its Health Career Explorers Camp, which provides participants with an overview of today’s health-care careers. The camp is open to rising 10th through 12th graders and will be held July 10 – 14, 2017 at Tyler’s Chester Campus. For more information about the Health Career Explorers Camp, contact Sherry Channell (804-720-8067) or download an application at www.shefva.org.

Additional STEM-H camp options may be found through the Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA). CCWA, a partnership between John Tyler Community College and Reynolds Community College, is offering summer campus in June through August for students ages eight through 12.
