Join us as we come together to honor past and present members of the armed services during John Tyler Community College’s annual Veterans Day ceremony on Friday, November 11. The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. in Bird Hall, room B124, at the Chester Campus.

This year’s ceremony will include a keynote address by U.S. Navy veteran Dr. Danny Barnes. During his more than 13-year career in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Barnes served as a surface warfare officer, cryptologist and cryptologic mathematician and was deployed to the Southern Pacific Ocean, the Persian Gulf, the Mediterranean Sea and Somalia. In March 2001, he was medically discharged from the U.S. Navy. After September 11, 2001, Dr. Barnes began working in the defense industry, where he was employed as an intelligence analyst and IT professional at the National Security Agency, Defense Intelligence Agency, Central Intelligence Agency, and the Department of the Treasury. Currently, Dr. Barnes is the associate program director for the School of Computer Science and IT at Stratford University and an assistant professor for Cyber Security and CIS at Hampton University. He also works as a cyber security/IT consultant through Absolute Veritable Solutions, a firm he founded in 2004.

In addition to Dr. Barnes’ address, the college’s Veterans Day Ceremony will include recognition of Tyler’s faculty, staff and student veterans and a memorial tree planting.
