CHESTER and MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Theatre students at John Tyler Community College will be stretching their creative and technical talents during the spring semester with productions that range from musical and funny to intensely dramatic. All performances will be held at The Lynn Theatre, the College’s new black box theatre, located at Tyler’s Midlothian Campus (800 Charter Colony Parkway) in its new academic building, the T Building.
From March 11 – 20, Tyler’s theatre students will present six performances of She Loves Me, a musical based on the book by Joe Masteroff and the play by Miklos Laszio. In this romantic comedy, two feuding perfume clerks fall in love – but they don’t realize they’re in love with each other thanks to a case of mistaken identity. She Loves Me was nominated for five Tony Awards in 1964, and the 1993 Broadway revival won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and the 1994 Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. She Loves Me, which features music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, is directed by Kerrigan Sullivan, professor of communication studies and theatre at John Tyler. Performances of this family-friendly musical will take place:
March 11 at 7:00 p.m.
March 12 at 7:00 p.m.
March 13 at 2:00 p.m.
March 19 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

From April 28 through May 1, the College presents Extremities by William Mastrosimone. Directed by Katherine Jones, Extremities is presented in collaboration with Safe Harbor as part of Sexual Awareness Month. In this gripping drama, a victim of a sexual assault turns the table on her attacker. While she keeps her would-be attacker tied up, she and her roommates argue over whether they should call the police or take matters into their own hands. Because of its content, this play is recommended for mature audiences only. Following each performance, there will be a talkback session with the actors, director and counselors. Performances of Extremities will take place:
April 28 at 7:00 p.m.
April 29 at 7:00 p.m.
April 30 at 7:00 p.m.
May 1 at 2:00 p.m.
No reservations are necessary, and shows are general admission. The house opens 30 minutes before show time.
